I started life as a classical and experimental musician, so my early writing centered on music. But my musical impulses have always been intimately bound to my experiences in the natural world of Florida, where I grew up, and to which I continue to return. Believe it or not, a Mozart Scherzo and a mosquito’s whine can be discussed in the same essay.

Ann McCutchan teaches creative nonfiction writing at the University of North Texas and is the author of books, essays, articles, and music libretti. She is currently working on a musical coming-of-age memoir situated on the ocean coasts of Florida and Louisiana.
